I’m tired, I love my bed, and watching Outlander is my idea of a great night, but recently I decided to go outside my comfort zone, and say yes to things, even when it pushed me out of familiar territory.
I’m not talking about doing favors, or bringing the kids their lunch when they forget it, I mean things that I was too scared to even attempt.
Meeting in L.A.? I’ll be there. I was shaking as I walked in the doors, my heart was racing as I stepped into the interview room, I’ve been a stay at home mom for decades, and the little voice of doubt in my head kept whispering “you don’t belong here,” but I kept it together and left knowing I’d done my best, that no matter what, I showed up and said yes.
I’ve joked before how my idea of working out was chasing toddlers , but when I said YES after the hundredth time I drove past Orangetheory, I had no idea how empowered it would make me feel, not only is my body becoming stronger, but the feeling of “I can do anything” has begun to permeate other parts of my life.
I’ve decided to follow a dream. When my girlfriend approached me about writing a book my first instinct was “me? No, I don’t have time for that,” but I remembered my promise to myself and I’m meeting with her book consultant this week.
Is it a bit scary? Absolutely. I’m going to do it anyways.
I’m still in shock at some of the things that have happened recently (sorry for being so vague, I’ll be able to reveal more in the coming months,) but it all started when I stopped being so complacent , put myself out there and started saying YES.
My girlfriend Shari recently decided to give it a try too, and has opened herself up in ways she hadn’t before, the friends she’s made (myself included) have been the unexpected benefit.
I think we should all give it a try sometime, embrace the awkward, feel the uncomfortable, and try something new.
I’m so glad I did!!!
Say yes to something this week!! And let me know how it went!
