Barefoot in Heels

Welcome to the world!

Welcome to the world!

After 2 1/2 years of waiting, our final family member is finally here, our beautiful little Aspen Hazel (quickly nicknamed Hazelnut,) named after a place in the world we love so much and in memory of her Great Grandma Rhoda Hazel, one of the strongest, most bad ass women I’ve ever known.

My water broke as I was getting my eyelash extensions done, my stylist asked me if I was heading to the hospital, “sure” I replied, “but not until we finish the other side.” I mean , come on, this is baby #7, we have to keep out priorities straight. I called Sean, letting him know whatever he was planning for the day wasn’t happening , tried to track down my mom (when you’re planning a c section, these spur of the moment “I’m having a baby” phone calls aren’t as expected,) and texted the older kids at school (the fact that they all responded immediately during class hours Is a whole different discussion.)

As I left the salon (with my beautiful lashes) I couldn’t help but smile at the way she was making her way into the world, maybe she’d be a “girly” girl like her mother.

On my way to the hospital I stopped for a latte and croissant, prior experience has taught me that they like to starve women about to have a baby, and then walked into L and D with my red stilettos and mini skirt (I couldn’t of planned it better) ready to meet my daughter.

My mom showed up right on time (mismatched shoes and all,) Sean had gathered all the kids from their various locations….we were ready!!

Despite doing this multiple times, the OR room always makes me uneasy, the lights, the sterile environment….something about it always makes me shake, but the moment she was out and I heard her first cry, perfection.

Recovery has been tough, being older and having so many has taken its toll, but here I am, 3 days out feeling good.

She’s amazing, she looks at us like “hey guys, I got this.” And has a wisdom about her you can just feel. I’m in love, completely.

I looked at Sean last night and said “this is nice, it’s the closest we’ve come to a romantic getaway since the twins were born!” Enjoying the quiet with just us, but today we head home, and I’m so excited to see my family of 9 all together.

This is it, this is our complete family, and I can’t wait to see all the chaos, love and adventure heading our way!!

Welcome Baby Aspen. We love you to infinity and back.
