Dressing the bump…tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years.

Dressing the bump…tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years.

Anyone that knows me knows that getting dressed is one of my favorite parts of the day, I love creating entire outfits  and finding the right look for my mood that day…being pregnant can make this a bit more challenging, but I promise, it’s still possible to look your best, even when you’re feeling your worst.

Tip 1) Don’t jump right to maternity.

With my oldest, the minute my clothes were tight, I was so excited, I went out and bought a bunch of maternity clothes.

Truth be told, they aren’t going to fit, as every experienced mom knows, the awkward “is she fat or pregnant” stage is usually the longest, and maternity clothes are just going to make you look frumpy.

My advice? Go with good transitional pieces, ones that work not only those first few months, but the ones after the baby is born also.

My favorites? Maxi dresses, Rachel Pally kimono dresses, anything with an empire waist, long tanks, shift dresses, and anything from Michael Stars with a forgiving silhouette.

Tip 2) Buy good quality maternity jeans, this isn’t the place to scrimp, my personal favorites are by AG.

Tip 3) Ask yourself “would I wear this if I wasn’t pregnant?”

Let’s be honest, maternity clothes can often resemble a table cloth, if large florals or overalls weren’t your thing before, this isn’t the time to start.

Tip 4) ACCESSORIES!!!  The right jacket, handbag, shoes, or piece of jewelry can make any average outfit…fabulous! Take the time to go on Pinterest and find what you like and what works for you.

Tip 5) Trial and Error. Sometimes things we think are going to look great, just don’t. I always take a picture of my outfit before I leave the house, if it doesn’t work, I start over…..it also helps to keep a folder on your phone of outfits that have worked, so if you’re in a hurry, you have a whole catalogue of ideas at your fingertips.
After 7 kids, my closet is a mix and match of sizes and styles, but I’ve learned that looking good really helps me feel better about all the changes my body is going through….when I look good, I feel better, hopefully you will too!!!
